1. Center for Complex Invasive Treatment of Cardiovascular Diseases – arterial and venous – It is a part of the Clinic for Cardiology and Angiology. The mutual cooperation of the two specialties allows a comprehensive approach in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases; it makes it possible for us to offer effective treatment of all forms of atherosclerosis – coronary, peripheral and cerebral, aortic dissections, peripheral and cerebral aneurysms, venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. The Center for Invasive Treatment of Cardiovascular Diseases works in collaboration with the Department of Angiology and Phlebology, the Department of Neurovascular Diseases and it is an integral part of the Centre for Early Diagnosis and Comprehensive Treatment of Multifocal Atherosclerosis, the Center for Diagnosis and Treatment of Chronic Cerebrospinal Venous Insufficiency (or CCSVI) and the Center for Diagnosis and Treatment of Pulmonary Thromboembolism (PE). It is also in constant partnership with the Cardiology Department and the Department of Vascular Surgery. This all-inclusive activity reflects the new concepts in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, atherosclerosis and several vascular neurodegenerative diseases. It is unique for Bulgaria and still quite rare for Europe and the USA.
The team working in the Center consists of over 10 invasive cardiologists and angiologists with rich experience. In the last 10 years this team has performed over 10,000 successful cardiovascular endovascular procedures.
Head of the Center is Mr. Ivo Petrov, Associate Professor – an invasive cardiologist and angiologist with rich experience; he has specialized in Argentina and Japan. He is Head of the Department of Cardiology and Angiology; also Chairman of the Society of Cardiologists in Bulgaria and Chairman of the Bulgarian Association of endovascular therapy.
The Center works with contemporary and modern equipment – two angiography and two 4D ECHO DOPPLER devices made by Philips.
In the Center, we diagnose and treat the following major diseases:
All forms of atherosclerosis:
- All forms of atherosclerosis:
- Coronary (ischemic heart disease) – Myocardial Infarction, Stenocardia (or Angina pectoris), postinfarction cardiomyopathy
- Cerebrovascular disease: carotid, vertebral and cerebral (intracranial) atherosclerosis
- Peripheral arterial diseases:
- Stenotic and Thrombotic Lesions in the arteries of the Upper and Lower Extremities
- Atherosclerotic disease of the abdominal aorta and its branches – kidney and gastrointestinal
- Acute and chronic peripheral embolism and thrombosis
- Arterial Hypertension
- Aortic Aneurysm Dissecans
- Aortic and Peripheral Arterial Aneurysms
- Aneurysms and malformations of the intracranial cerebral arteries
- Inflammatory lesions of the vessels – Burger, Aortoarteriitis, etc.
- Neurodegenerative vascular diseases: stroke and post-stroke encephalopathy, Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
- Diagnostic and therapeutic inpatient services
We examine the following arteries:
- Coronary arteries with ventriculography
- Ascending aorta, aortic arch, and thoracic and abdominal aorta
- Brain: carotid, vertebral, intracranial – a. cerebri media, anterior, posterior, basilaris.
- Upper Limb Arteries – Subclavian, Brachial, Distal
- Abdominal aorta and Aortoiliac segment
- Lower limb arteries – Femoral, Popliteal and of the foot (Dorsalis Pedis)
- Visceral arteries – Renal, Mesenteric Arteries and Tr. celiacus
We also performed venography (a.k.a. Ascending Phlebography):
- Lower Limb Veins – Iliac, Femoral, Popliteal, Tibial, Saphena Magna and Saphena Parva
- Inferior Vena Cava and Superior Vena Cava
- Visceral Veins – Renal, Vena Portae
- Upper Limbs Veins – Brachiocephalic, Subclavian, and Axillary
- Veins draining the brain – Jugular, Vertebral, Azigos.
In the Center for Complex Invasive therapy of cardiovascular diseases we perform the following treatment activities: We diagnose and treat endovascularly all cardiovascular and neurovascular diseases. We perform the following invasive procedures:
- Balloon dilatation and/or stenting of coronary, cerebral, peripheral and visceral arteries
- Endovascular therapy of arterial hypertension
- Balloon dilation and/or stenting of veins: Inferior Vena Cava, Superior Vena Cava, vena brachiocephalica, vena jugularis, vena azygos, vena iliaca and peripheral veins
- Endovascular stenting or endoprosthesis of dissections and aneurysms of the aorta and the peripheral arteries
- Endovascular treatment of cerebral aneurysms
- Endovascular therapy of Arteriovenous malformations – cerebral and peripheral.
2. Centre for Diagnosis and Treatment of Lung Tromoembolizam ( BTE ) - It carries out emergency noninvasive diagnostic follow pulmoangiografiya and established pulmonary embolism - conducted local fibrinolysis and endovascular thrombectomy. In massive embolism in cardiac surgery assessment is conducted embolectomy .
